Still need more hands this coming weekend for the what we hope will be the final loads.
We might be open at the new location on Sunday with the week’s new releases.
New location required a new phone number, as we’re no longer in the same Central Office’s range. The original 848-0413 will become a virtual number, kicking over to the new one. We’ve had that one since opening in 1977, so it’d be kind of silly to let it go. The new number is the very silly but memorable 510-OKHOBBIT.
Last day of the first North American Discworld. Sir Terry Pratchett stopped in front of our dealer tables and casually conversed with his fans. Considering his health, we didn’t ask him to sign two tables worth of new titles, but did get a small batch of blurry phonecam photos.
A portal to the world of Palimpsest (in trade paperback from Random House) with theatrical readings by Catherynne Valente accompanied by music performed by S. J. Tucker.
Clare Bell read and signed the fifth novel of the Named, Ratha’s Challenge (in trade paperback from Beagle Bay). Armed with electronics, she sent out the first live tweet from an OCH reading!
Nisi Shawl read and signed her collection, Filter House (trade paperback from Aqueduct Press). The reading was recorded, but they never sent us a copy or link. 🙁
“On December 27, I read at The Other Change of Hobbit. An audience of 8, plus 3 store staff were in attendance. Only one white person sitting there. I thought ‘This must be the most black people this store has ever seen.'”
Rather presumptious. She don’t know the Berkeley demographic very well, do she?
The first three photos of the kittens in the backyard brambles of 2020 Shattuck. Dave heard mewing from the bathroom and went out back to verify, and was surprised to find a litter of four small kittens and mom.
